REGEDIT.EXE
     REGEDIT.EXE

NOTE: Always make a backup copy of your reistry files BEFORE you make changes. A free utility called PPPBoost is very useful. PPPBoost will automate backing up your Regisry files (System.DAT and User.DAT)

Don't use REGEDIT unless no other way exists for you to make the setting you need. The Windows 98 control panels and property sheets are always preferable to directly editing the Registry, for two main reasons.

  1. The registry editor has no "undo" feature!
  2. Changes you make in the Registry editor take effect immediately, unlike the control panels and property sheets, which let you think about your change (and maybe reverse it!) before clicking OK or Apply.
NOTE: Unless you are an expert ( generally, very few people are) do not make changes in the Registry Keys.

Using REGEDIT.EXE to change system settings

From the Desktop environment:
  1. Click START - RUN
  2. Type REGEDIT into the dialog box
  3. Click OK
  4. Veiw/Edit any entries. (careful here, again, don't make any unnecessary changes)
