Ethernet networks using 10/100BaseT involve a clustering device known as a hub. The hub serves to consolidate the nodes in a given area and connect to the main system server on one line. The use of a hub allows you to be more flexible about where nodes are physically located, and as long as you have available ports on the hub, a hub makes adding a new node to the network fairly simple. For a network with more than six or so nodes, the network should use a hub and 10BaseT cabling. The fact that a hub and its nodes can be connected into another hub extends the flexibility of the network as far as you want to take it.
