Accessing Windows 9x Device Configuration

  1. Click the Start button to display the Windows 9x Start menu.

  2. Choose Settings to display the Settings menu.

  3. Choose Control Panel - you know what that does.

  4. Double-click Network to display the Network Devices dialog box.

  5. Click the configuration tab, which shows the various networkable devices on the system.

  6. Find the NIC on the list, highlight it, and click Properties.

This step displays the Properties dialog box for that particular device. If the device is not a Plug-and-Play device, the system resources assigned should match those that you physically configured on the card. If it is Plug-and-Play, you can observe the system resources that were assigned to it by Windows 9x.

  7. If you want to change the settings (that is, if you truely know what you are doing -- otherwise, leave them alone), you can do so and then click OK to save them.

NOTE: It would be a great servicing habit, before you change any settings, to write down the original settings very carefully.
