Using Pull Quotes in MS-Publisher 2000

What's a pull quote? A pull quote is an excerpt from the main text that adds visual interest to the page and attracts the reader's attention ("A" below).

When you create a pull quote, use a large, bold font to make it really stand out from the rest of the text. You can also add shading behind the text, add a decorative border above or below the text, or create hanging quotation marks around the text.

Create a pull quote from scratch

  1. Create a text frame where you want the pull quote.
  2. Type the text.
  3. Change the font and font size, if you want.
  4. Add shading to the text frame, if you want.
  5. Add a decorative border above or below the text frame, if you want.

Create hanging quotation marks for a pull quote
  1. On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect.
  2. Click the AutoFormat as You Type tab.
  3. If the Straight Quotes with Smart Quotes box has a check mark in it, click OK.
    -Or- Click the Straight Quotes with Smart Quotes box to add a check mark, and then click OK.
  4. Create a small text frame next to the upper-left corner of the text frame that contains the pull quote.
  5. Type
  6. Change the font and font size of the quotation mark, if you want.
  7. Create another text frame next to the last word in the pull quote.
  8. Type
  9. Delete the left quotation marks so that only the right quotation marks remain in the text frame.
  10. Format the right quotation marks the same as the left quotation marks.
  11. Position the text frame where you want it.
